As a student majoring in Journalism and Black Studies, I chose to pursue these passionate areas of mine because I foresee using my abilities to capture life through a camera lens and bringing systemic adversities that people battle with on a daily basis as my career. I also am a very creative person that is dedicated in making any concrete idea into a reality through intense and strategical planning until it is executed.
Outside of class, I have embarked on a journey of becoming a photographer and videographer, building my resume of being a great photojournalist. I love capturing images, but I also love going into great detail through my writing abilities. After my undergraduate career, I am open to the possibilities of continuing my education into the graduate program or even starting my career. No matter the route, I aspire to be a great author, director, screenwriter, producer and social entrepreneur. While there seems to be many routes that I hope to navigate through, I truly have one path and journey that I am dedicated to completing.

Interning at The Union For Contemporary Art for the '19-'20 School Year
Starting as a communications intern at the local non-profit whose mission is to strengthen the cultural and social landscape of the community by using arts to inspire positive social change, I quickly enthralled and loathed at the idea of thinking as an artist while within the walls. The space has a lively feeling that is comforting and the team welcomes anyone who walks through the heavy doubles doors with open arms (not literally) to self-expression and love.
My job was to assist the communications director with activities of writing press releases, journal articles, adding or creating content for the monthly newsletter and recording the weekly arts club held for the youth. Through sheer will and respect for the space and everyone in it, I loved photographing events and feeling respected as well, having ideas taken into consideration and treated like an adult that I am and not like a child. Through hands-on observation while navigating through this space with the team throughout this school year, I concluded that the Union needed more assistance in every department.

Photos that I captured from September 2019 - March 2020
While tasks seems to be attainable for completion right now, the space has quickly gained much popularity and there are no boundaries for the non-profit. With the arts scene growing so rampantly in the North Omaha community, the Union is becoming the cornerstone for art and it will eventually have to grow, literally. The building may have to be built upon on or more spaces within the community will have to be expanded to, but the programs offered are amazing and are very beloved.
